Sebelum Pemakaian
Beberapa hal perlu Anda ketahui sebelum mengonsumsi obat ini untuk menghindari efek samping yang tidak diinginkan. Berikut ini hal-hal yang perlu Anda ketahui sebelum pemakaian, antara lain:
- Sebelum mengambil acyclovir, pastikan Anda tidak memiliki alergi terhadapnya atau bahan-bahan lain yang terkandung.
- Beritahu dokter apabila menderita penyakit ginjal atau sistem kekebalan yang lemah (disebabkan oleh penyakit atau akibat obat-obatan tertentu).
- Konsultasikan pada dokter apabila Anda sedang atau berencana menggunakan resep obat lain, termasuk vitamin, suplemen, dan obat herbal.
- Konsultasikan kepada dokter sebelum menggunakannya jika Anda sedang hamil atau menyusui. Segera hubungi dokter apabila Anda hamil saat sedang mengonsumsi antibiotik ini.
- Hindari memberikan obat ini pada anak usia dibawah 12 tahun.
Dosis Acyclovir
Beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi dosis obat ini adalah usia, tingkat keparahan, kondisi medis lain, dan respon pertama tubuh terhadap obat. Umumnya berikut ini adalah dosis penggunaan obat berdasarkan usia dan jenis herpes, antara lain:
Mengobati herpes
- Dewasa (18-64 tahun): 200-400 mg, 5 kali sehari, selama 7-10 hari. Anda dapat meminumnya setiap 4 jam.
Mengobati herpes zoster atau cacar ular
- Dewasa (18-64 tahun): 800 mg 5 kali per hari selama 7-10 hari.

Cara Pemakaian
Berikut ini adalah tata cara pemakaian obat yang perlu Anda ketahui, antara lain:
- Gunakan obat ini segera saat gejala pertama kali muncul.
- Ikutilah resep dan tata cara penggunaan yang tertera pada kemasan atau sesuai dengan anjuran dokter.
- Telan tablet secara utuh. Jangan menghancurkan, mengunyah, menghisap, atau menelan tablet.
- Minumlah obat ini pada jam yang sama setiap harinya agar mendapat hasil yang maksimal.
- Hendaknya memperbanyak minum air putih setelah mengonsumsi obat ini untuk menjaga ginjal.
- Simpanlah obat pada suhu ruang. Hindari paparan langsung sinar matahari dan tempat yang lembab.
Efek Samping Acyclovir
Seperti halnya obat-obatan lainnya, acyclovir juga dapat menyebabkan timbulnya efek samping. Berikut ini efek samping umumnya muncul, antara lain:
- Nyeri kulit ringan
- Ruam dan gatal pada kulit
- Mual dan muntah
- Diare
- Sakit kepala
- Nyeri otot
Selain itu, gejala yang serius mungkin saja Anda alami. Segera hubungi dokter apabila mengalami gejala berikut ini:
- Kulit mudah memar atau berdarah
- Munculnya bintik-bintik ungu atau merah pada bagian bawah kulit
- Perubahan perilaku, seperti kebingungan, gangguan berbicara, dan halusinasi
- Kejang
- Masalah ginjal. Gejala yang umumnya muncul seperti, sedikit atau tidak ada buang air kecil, nyeri atau sulit buang air kecil, bengkak pada kaki atau pergelangan kaki, terasa lelah, dan sesak napas.
